wagamama USA has launched mamago, a proprietary direct online ordering platform that bypasses third-party delivery marketplaces in favor of exclusive digital offerings hosted on the brand's own website. The move positions the pan-Asian casual dining chain to capture more first-party customer data, improve margin on off-premise orders, and expand reach across its U.S. footprint from its Tampa, Florida headquarters.

The Platform Mechanics

Mamago is live now at wagamama.us and unlocks a tier of menu items unavailable through aggregator apps. Exclusive Bao Bun & Beverage Bundles pair four signature bao bun tacos with edamame and a choice of Sapporo beer six- or 12-packs or rosé wine — a bundling strategy designed to lift average check and build basket size without discounting. A dedicated kids' menu delivers Mini Chicken Ramen, Mini Chicken Katsu, Mini Chicken Cha Han, and Mini Chicken Yaki Soba, targeting the family daypart that is typically underserved by off-premise digital channels. Catering packages scale to groups of 10, 20, 30, or 50 guests and feature shareable appetizers, wraps, and signature entrées including Bang Bang Cauliflower, Korean BBQ Meatballs, Chicken Pad Thai, and Katsu Curry. The brand says expanded catering SKUs are planned for 2027.

For casual dining operators, the bundling and catering architecture on a direct ordering platform is a proven tactic to grow per-order revenue and reduce dependence on third-party take rates — marketplace fees that can run 15–30% of gross order value — a pressure point that has accelerated direct-channel investment across the restaurant digital ordering segment.

Gift Cards as a CRM Play

Alongside the platform launch, wagamama is rolling out seven new gift card designs timed to the holiday season — two available as physical and digital cards, five digital-only — paired with a structured bonus incentive: a $50 purchase earns a $10 bonus card, and a $100 purchase earns a $20 bonus card. Bonus cards are redeemable January 4 through February 12, 2027, a deliberate Q1 activation window that smooths post-holiday revenue and brings gift recipients back into the purchase funnel at full margin. Gift card programs with structured reload incentives are increasingly a restaurant loyalty and CRM lever, providing brands with float, repeat visit data, and direct digital touchpoints without requiring a full loyalty app infrastructure.

Stephen Judge, CEO of wagamama U.S., framed the launch around shifting consumer expectations: "Today's consumers expect flexibility, convenience and value without compromising on quality or flavor. From mamago and our expanding catering offerings to new ways to share the wagamama experience through gift cards, we're creating more opportunities to connect with guests beyond our restaurants and become part of their everyday lives."

The dual announcement — direct ordering platform plus gift card refresh — reflects a broader operator push to own the guest relationship end to end, from the initial digital touchpoint through repeat purchase. For a brand still scaling its U.S. presence, a first-party ordering channel also means richer transaction data to inform menu decisions, delivery zone prioritization, and future CRM buildout without paying a third-party platform for the privilege.
